Inscription E18 Index Plan < Prev. Next >

Headstone, oval top, body stone and small footstone, also oval topped. The burial is unusual in that it does not lie east-west, but instead lies SSW-NNE, with the headstone facing north-north-east. The surface layer of the headstone is peeling away from the stone, and may soon collapse altogether. The burial lies at the southwest corner of Section E of the churchyard, close to the footpath gate.

[BR: "1857 15 May HUNT Catharine 2y 6m North Leigh" -- AND -- Baptism Register "1857 9 May HUNT Catharine - William Sutton & Miriam - Farmer, North Leigh". There are no other North Leigh parish records for the family, who farmed in Fawler in the 1861 & 1871 censuses. It seems as if Catherine was baptised on the day she died. ]
